Job Purpose

To provide technical, practical and instructional support to brickwork and construction programmes within the Further Education college. The Brickwork Technician will ensure workshops, equipment and materials are prepared, maintained and used safely, supporting high‑quality teaching, learning and assessment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical & Workshop Support
    • Prepare workshops, tools, equipment and materials for practical brickwork sessions.
    • Maintain brickwork tools, plant and equipment, ensuring they are safe, clean and serviceable.
    • Set up practical demonstrations and training rigs as required by teaching staff.
    • Support learners during practical sessions, offering guidance on safe working practices and correct use of tools (under tutor direction).
  • Health, Safety & Compliance
    • Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety legislation, COSHH, risk assessments and college policies.
    • Carry out regular health and safety checks in workshops and report hazards or defects promptly.
    • Monitor safe learner behaviour in workshops and intervene where necessary.
    • Assist with fire safety, first aid procedures and emergency evacuations when required.
  • Learning & Learner Support
    • Support teaching staff in delivering practical elements of brickwork qualifications.
    • Provide additional support to learners, including those with additional learning needs, to help them access practical activities.
    • Encourage high standards of workmanship, behaviour and professional conduct.
  • Stock & Resource Management
    • Monitor, order, and control stock of materials and consumables within agreed budgets.
    • Keep accurate records of stock levels, equipment usage and maintenance schedules.
    • Source materials that reflect current industry standards and practices.
  • Administrative & Team Support
    • Assist with learner assessments and internal verification activities where appropriate.
    • Support open days, enrolment events, employer engagement activities and competitions.
    • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, technicians and support teams across the department.
