We are delighted to be supporting a well-regarded Further Education college in the recruitment of a passionate and hands-on Animal Keeper to join their specialist Animal Centre. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a diverse range of species while supporting student learning in a practical and engaging environment.
About the Role
As an Animal Keeper, you will be responsible for the day-to-day care, welfare and management of a variety of animals including reptiles, insects, meerkats and capybaras. You will play a key role in maintaining high standards of animal husbandry while supporting the delivery of an outstanding learning environment for students.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide daily care and husbandry for a wide range of animals, ensuring high welfare standards
- Maintain clean, safe and well-presented enclosures and facilities
- Prepare feeds and monitor animal health and behaviour
- Support practical teaching sessions and student learning activities
- Assist with the maintenance of equipment, habitats and resources
- Contribute to animal enrichment and welfare programmes
- Participate in college events and support visitor engagement where required
- Ensure compliance with health & safety and animal welfare regulations
About You
You will be passionate about animal care and confident working with a variety of species in a busy environment. You'll be proactive, reliable, and committed to maintaining excellent standards of welfare and presentation. You will have experience working with animals and feel confident carrying out day-to-day husbandry tasks. You’ll enjoy working as part of a team and supporting students in developing their practical skills.
Essential Requirements
- Experience working with animals in a practical environment
- Knowledge of animal welfare and health & safety requirements
- Strong practical skills in animal handling and husbandry
- Good organisational and communication skills
- Basic IT skills
Desirable
- Level 2 or 3 in an Animal related qualification
- Experience working in an educational or zoo/farm environment
- Experience supporting students or trainees
