Are you interested in Learning Mentor Roles in the East London Area? Morgan Hunt are pleased to announce that we are working with several Colleges and Sixth Forms across the county on a preferred supplier basis. Together we are seeking to appoint a Learning Mentor.

Job Purpose

To provide targeted academic, pastoral, and motivational support to learners across Further Education programmes, helping them overcome barriers to learning, develop positive study habits, remain engaged, and achieve their full potential. The Learning Mentor works closely with teaching staff, support teams, and external agencies to promote learner progress, wellbeing, employability, and retention.

Key Responsibilities

  • Academic Support
    • Provide 1:1 or small-group mentoring focused on study skills, organization, time management, and exam preparation.
    • Support learners to set goals, track progress, and reflect on their learning journey.
    • Assist with understanding assignment briefs, planning work, and developing independent learning skills.
    • Identify learners' needs and create personalized support plans.
    • Support learners transitioning into FE or progressing to higher levels or employment.
  • Pastoral & Wellbeing Support
    • Offer guidance and a safe, supportive environment where learners can discuss concerns.
    • Build positive, professional relationships that promote confidence and resilience.
    • Recognize indicators of mental health or safeguarding concerns and escalate appropriately.
    • Promote attendance, punctuality, and positive behaviour.
  • Collaboration & Communication
    • Work closely with teaching staff to identify learners who require additional support.
    • Contribute to multi-disciplinary meetings regarding learner progress.
    • Liaise with external agencies where necessary (e.g., social services, youth support, careers teams).
    • Maintain accurate records of mentoring sessions, progress, and interventions.
  • Inclusive Practice
    • Support learners with SEND, disadvantaged backgrounds, ESOL needs, or those at risk of disengagement.
    • Promote equality, diversity, and inclusive learning strategies.
    • Adapt support approaches to meet individuals' cultural, educational, and personal needs.
