To lead and develop the college's maintenance, engineering and minor works functions, ensuring a safe, compliant and well‑maintained estate. The post holder will manage the day‑to‑day maintenance team and project officers, oversee planned and reactive works, and deliver small‑scale construction and improvement projects. They will ensure statutory compliance, provide technical leadership, drive continuous improvement, and support a positive health and safety culture across all campuses.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Management: Lead and manage the maintenance team and project officers, ensuring high performance, clear priorities, and effective resource planning. Set standards for service delivery, safety, compliance and customer service. Foster a collaborative, solution‑focused culture within the team.
  • Operational Maintenance: Oversee reactive and planned preventative maintenance across the estate, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and best practice. Manage workflows through the CAFM system, ensuring accurate records, timely updates and efficient scheduling. Ensure safe working practices, risk awareness and adherence to H&S legislation across all activities.
  • Minor Works & Projects: Lead the delivery of small construction projects and minor works programmes, ensuring works are compliant, cost‑effective and completed to specification. Coordinate handover processes, including O&M manuals, commissioning and certification. Provide technical advice to colleagues and stakeholders on building services, maintenance and asset management.
  • Asset & Compliance Management: Maintain an accurate asset register and planned maintenance programme, ensuring updates are made following works or lifecycle replacements. Ensure statutory compliance across all building services, including mechanical, electrical and fabric elements. Support condition surveys and lifecycle planning.
  • Contract & Supplier Management: Manage third‑party contractors delivering maintenance, compliance and project services, ensuring KPIs and SLAs are met. Contribute to tendering, specification writing and contract reviews.
  • Financial & Performance Management: Manage budgets for maintenance and minor works, ensuring value for money. Provide performance reports, KPIs and updates as required. Support business cases for technical projects and lifecycle replacements.
