Morgan Hunt are working with a well established engineering consultancy to recruit a Senior Structural Engineer to join their Glasgow office. The consultancy has a strong reputation of delivering technically excellent engineering projects across Scotland. The work spans a wide range of sectors, including residential, commercial, healthcare, retail, industrial and, in particular, education.
This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer looking to take ownership of projects and play a key role in the their delivery. You will be involved throughout the project lifecycle, from initial concept and feasibility through to detailed design, construction and completion.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the structural engineering design of projects from concept through to completion
- Take responsibility for the technical delivery of projects, ensuring designs are robust, practical and commercially viable
- Develop and review structural schemes using steel, reinforced concrete, masonry and timber
- Prepare and check structural calculations, specifications, reports and technical documentation
- Coordinate structural designs with architects, civil engineers, MEP consultants, contractors and other members of the project team
- Attend and contribute to design team meetings, client meetings and project reviews
- Develop strong working relationships with clients and contribute to the successful delivery of projects
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to graduate and less experienced engineers
- Review designs and calculations produced by other team members
- Identify and manage technical risks throughout the design process
- Undertake site visits, inspections and provide technical support during construction
- Contribute to business development, bids and proposals where opportunities arise
What you offer:
- A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
- Strong structural engineering experience within a consultancy environment
- Strong experience in the design of building structures within the UK
- A thorough understanding of relevant British Standards and Eurocodes
- Strong experience designing structures in steel, reinforced concrete, masonry and timber
- Comfortable taking responsibility for projects and delivering work independently
- Experience producing and checking structural calculations and technical reports
- Experience with structural analysis and design software (TeklaSD, Tedds, Robot etc)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- The confidence to liaise directly with clients, architects, contractors and other consultants
- Experience developing and mentoring junior engineers and technicians
