The Role

  • Engage with a diverse range of service users, recognising individual needs, rights and circumstances.
  • Provide expert safeguarding advice to carers, professionals and members of the public.
  • Assess contacts and work alongside duty managers to determine appropriate action.
  • Ensure referrals are processed and passed to relevant agencies within required timeframes.
  • Accurately record detailed case information in line with Helpline procedures and safeguarding standards.
  • Contribute to service evaluation and continuous improvement.
  • Work in partnership with external agencies to support effective child protection.
  • Promote equal opportunities, diversity and children's rights in all aspects of your work.
  • Support colleagues and volunteers in delivering high-quality services.

You may also contribute to wider service promotion activities and partnership meetings as required.

Working Pattern

This role operates on a 3-week rolling shift pattern:

  • Week 1: Monday - Friday, 09:00 - 17:00 (Office-based)
  • Week 2: Monday - Friday, 11:00 - 19:00 (Office-based)
  • Week 3: Monday - Friday, 14:00 - 22:00 (Fully remote, home working)

This structured pattern offers variety, collaboration time in the office, and the flexibility of home working.

Salary & Benefits

  • Starting salary: £34,500 + 3.5% salary increase + £200 working from home allowance

About You

We’re looking for someone who combines professional expertise with empathy and sound judgement. You will have:

  • A relevant safeguarding qualification (social care, health, education, law enforcement, youth justice, youth work or counselling).
  • Post‑qualification experience with responsibility for safeguarding children or families.
  • Up‑to‑date knowledge of childcare legislation, research and best practice.
  • Experience working in high‑demand, customer‑focused environments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to provide advice and support via telephone and in writing.
  • Strong analytical skills – able to gather, assess and succinctly record key information.
  • Confident IT skills and experience using client information databases.
  • The ability to work independently, as part of a team, and collaboratively with external agencies.
  • A genuine commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
