We are seeking an experienced and knowledgeable Tenancy Rights Advisor to provide specialist housing and tenancy advice to residents facing housing insecurity, tenancy disputes, homelessness risk, or landlord-related issues. The successful candidate will support vulnerable tenants by offering practical guidance, advocacy, casework management, and representation where appropriate.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality tenancy and housing rights advice in line with current housing legislation and local authority procedures.
- Support tenants experiencing issues such as eviction, rent arrears, harassment, disrepair, anti-social behaviour, and homelessness.
- Manage a caseload of clients, maintaining accurate records and case notes.
- Liaise with landlords, housing associations, local authorities, solicitors, and external agencies to achieve positive outcomes for clients.
- Conduct advocacy and negotiation on behalf of tenants.
- Assist clients with housing applications, appeals, complaints, and tribunal preparation where required.
- Provide advice on welfare benefits and financial support linked to housing stability.
- Deliver outreach sessions, workshops, or drop-in advice services where necessary.
- Ensure all work complies with safeguarding, confidentiality, GDPR, and organisational policies.
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience in tenancy support, housing advice, homelessness prevention, or welfare rights.
- Strong knowledge of UK housing legislation, tenancy law, and homelessness duties.
- Experience managing complex casework and supporting vulnerable individuals.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and advocacy skills.
- Ability to work independently and prioritise a busy workload.
- Competent IT and case management skills.
- Understanding of safeguarding and equality legislation.
Desirable Skills
- CIH qualification or relevant housing/advice certification.
- Experience working within local government, housing associations, or charitable organisations.
- Knowledge of welfare benefits and debt advice.
