Are you a Temporary Accommodation Move On Officer looking for your next assignment? Lambeth Council are currently recruiting for a Temporary Accommodation Move On Officer to join their team on a contract basis. As part of the Temporary Accommodation Move On team, you will work with households in temporary accommodation to move into settled accommodation.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Understanding their move-on needs, matching them to suitable settled accommodation, supporting them to overcome any move-on barriers, and completing their discharge from temporary accommodation.
  • Working closely with team Lettings Negotiators to identify the properties needed and to match households to the properties they have sourced ensuring no properties are left unused.
  • Setting expectations about the most likely route into settled accommodation and advising households on actions to successfully move out of temporary accommodation.
  • Signposting households to relevant support such as benefits or debt advice to ensure they are in the best position to move into and sustain their settled accommodation.

This role is key in ensuring households are able to move on from temporary accommodation, reducing the average stay length and the number of households in temporary accommodation.

Key Accountabilities

  • Manage a caseload of households that have been identified as ready to move on from temporary accommodation into settled accommodation, offering suitable settled accommodation as legally defined.
  • Review and update household information, including housing needs assessment and other documentation, to ensure the needs of the household are fully understood.
  • Establish and understand rehousing and resettlement needs, including affordability, geographical restrictions, and any vulnerabilities or behaviours that will require specific support; make referrals to specialist accommodation and support where needed.
  • Work at pace to progress cases in a timely way and use properties efficiently.
  • Liaise with other Council departments and external bodies as required, including Social Care, GPs, fraud, etc., to ensure suitable accommodation offers and support measures are in place.
  • Support households to prepare for move and provide appropriate advice on options, responsibilities, and rights for the tenancy they are offered, and on what happens if they reject the property.
  • When choice-based lettings is the best option, ensure households understand the option, support them to bid on suitable properties, and, if shortlisted, attend viewings and help them accept an offer and make the move.
  • Conduct property visits and home visits to households as required to ensure suitability of a property and successful move-on from temporary accommodation.
  • Issue relevant discharge notifications to complete homelessness duties and maintain relevant records, including issuing offer letters, discharge notices, managing offer refusals, and other appropriate communications.
  • Assist with resettlement and address barriers to moving into the property offered so the household can quickly accept the offer and move in, including advice on benefits, schools, and community information.
  • Handle complaints, take remedial action, and use learning from complaints and reviews to support service improvements.
  • Provide feedback to the Move On Team Lead to support efficient management of the team, including identification of households ready to move and sourcing suitable properties.
  • Work closely with other peer groups across housing and directorates to promote a joined-up approach to service delivery.
