Slough Borough Council is seeking a Temporary Accommodation Visiting Officer to support the effective management of households placed in temporary accommodation. The role involves regular property visits, ensuring accommodation standards are met, supporting residents, and liaising with internal teams and external providers to ensure compliance with housing legislation and council policies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out regular visits to temporary accommodation properties (including nightly-paid, private sector, and council-managed accommodation).
  • Inspect properties to ensure they meet health, safety, and housing standards.
  • Act as a point of contact for residents, providing advice and resolving issues relating to their accommodation.
  • Identify safeguarding concerns and make appropriate referrals in line with council procedures.
  • Monitor occupancy, identify unauthorised occupation, and report breaches of licence agreements.
  • Liaise with landlords, managing agents, housing providers, and internal council services.
  • Accurately record visits, actions, and outcomes on housing management systems.
  • Support enforcement action where accommodation standards or contractual requirements are not met.
  • Assist with minimising rent loss, voids, and health and safety risks.
  • Work in accordance with relevant legislation including homelessness, housing, and health & safety regulations.

Essential Requirements

  • Experience working in housing, temporary accommodation, homelessness, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of housing standards, health & safety, and safeguarding.
  • Ability to carry out property inspections confidently and independently.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to deal sensitively with vulnerable residents.
  • Good organisational skills and ability to manage a varied caseload.
  • Competent IT skills, including the use of case management systems.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (desirable, subject to council requirements).

Desirable

  • Experience working within a local authority.
  • Knowledge of homelessness legislation and temporary accommodation management.
  • Experience working with vulnerable households and multi-agency partners.

Additional Information

  • Contract role paid at £30 per hour (Umbrella).
  • Role may involve lone working and visits across multiple sites within the borough.
  • Enhanced DBS may be required.
