Working Model: Hybrid - approximately 40% of time spent in Canary Wharf

Job Summary

We are seeking a Senior Media Relations Officer to join a high-profile organisation on a temporary basis for approximately two months, with the potential for extension. The successful candidate will support a dynamic environment, working across a diverse portfolio that includes digital, consumer, markets, mergers, and competition cases. This role requires a strong background in regulatory communications and experience working with Whitehall. You will play a key role in developing compelling communications to secure positive media coverage and managing media relations effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement communication strategies to promote the organization’s work, with a focus on regulatory matters.
  • Draft press notices, op-eds, and prepare briefs or Q&As for senior colleagues.
  • Manage media inquiries and provide assured media handling on complex regulatory issues.
  • Build and maintain relationships with journalists across traditional and new media, as well as key stakeholders in Whitehall.
  • Analyze media coverage and provide daily summaries for the organization.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders to ensure effective communication.

Qualifications

  • Significant experience in a busy press office environment, particularly in regulatory or public sector communications.
  • Proven ability to manage media relations in proactive and reactive situations.
  • Strong writing skills with a track record of producing engaging and accurate content.
  • Experience in developing communication plans tailored to various audiences, including government and regulatory bodies.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills.

Experience

  • Extensive experience working with national and regional media.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate and respond to media agendas effectively.
  • Experience in crisis communication and reputation management.
  • Proven track record of working with Whitehall and handling regulatory communications.
