About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Senior Gym Instructor / Personal Trainer to support the day-to-day running of busy fitness and leisure facilities at a further education college in Greater Manchester. This is an exciting opportunity to take on additional responsibility as an Acting Duty Supervisor, ensuring a safe, professional, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and the wider community. You will play a key role in delivering high-quality fitness services, supervising operations in the absence of management, and supporting the development of programmes and activities across both indoor and outdoor facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide a welcoming, clean, safe, and professional environment for all users
- Act as Duty Supervisor when required, overseeing daily operations and staff
- Design and deliver safe and effective fitness programmes for members
- Deliver group exercise sessions and support curriculum-based activities
- Respond to customer enquiries in person and over the phone
- Carry out risk assessments and ensure compliance with health & safety procedures
- Support safeguarding procedures and ensure they are followed at all times
- Provide first aid when required
- Manage bookings, memberships, and reception duties using till and database systems
- Handle cash, reconcile daily floats, and maintain accurate records
- Maintain cleanliness and presentation of all facilities, including gym areas, changing rooms, and outdoor spaces
- Set up, dismantle, and move equipment as required
- Support events, enrichment programmes, and community initiatives
- Assist with stock control, including vending and equipment
About You
Essential Requirements
- Recognised Gym Instructor and/or Personal Training qualification
- First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain)
- Strong knowledge of fitness equipment and safe exercise practices
- Experience in customer service
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
- Competent IT skills, including use of databases, booking systems, and Microsoft Office
- Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations
- Must have a DBS on the update service
Desirable
- Experience working in a busy sports or leisure environment
- Supervisory or team leadership experience
- Group exercise or coaching qualifications (e.g. ETM, Yoga, Pilates)
- Experience working with young people or vulnerable adults
- Knowledge of marketing, promotions, or community engagement initiatives
