- About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated SEND Learning Support Practitioner to join a supportive educational environment and provide specialist support to learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
This role involves working with learners who have a range of additional needs, including complex learning difficulties, physical disabilities, and medical requirements.
The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring learners can access education, develop independence, and achieve positive outcomes both academically and personally.
Working closely with teaching staff, therapists, healthcare professionals, and families, you will provide tailored support that enables learners to thrive in a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment.
The Role
As a SEND Learning Support Practitioner, you will
- Support Learning and Development
- Provide one-to-one and small-group support to learners with SEND.
- Adapt support strategies to meet individual learner needs.
- Encourage engagement, participation, and achievement within learning activities.
- Promote independence, confidence, and social development.
- Deliver Personal Care Support
- Assist learners with toileting, dressing, feeding, changing, and personal hygiene.
- Support learners respectfully while maintaining dignity and wellbeing.
- Follow individual care plans and support programmes.
- Provide Medical and Specialist Support
- Administer medication in accordance with healthcare plans and organisational procedures.
- Support learners who require PEG feeding.
- Assist learners with complex medical needs.
- Monitor wellbeing and elevate concerns when required.
- Support Mobility and Physical Needs
- Assist learners with mobility and positioning requirements.
- Use specialist equipment including hoists, slings, standing aids, and wheelchairs.
- Carry out moving and handling procedures safely and effectively.
- Maintain Safe Practice
- Complete accurate records relating to learner support, medication, and care provision.
- Follow safeguarding, health and safety, infection control, and risk management procedures.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and external professionals to ensure positive learner outcomes.
Essential Requirements
To be considered for this position, applicants must have
- Experience supporting children, young people, or adults with SEND.
- Experience providing personal care.
- Experience administering medication.
- Experience supporting individuals with complex medical needs.
- Experience with PEG feeding.
- Knowledge and practical experience of manual handling procedures.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting learner wellbeing.
Desirable Qualifications and Training
The following would be advantageous
- Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning.
- Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Health and Social Care.
- Moving and Handling certification.
- Medication Administration training.
- PEG Feeding training.
- First Aid certification.
- Safeguarding training.

Due to the nature of the learners supported within this role, applicants must have demonstrable experience and training in personal care, medication administration, PEG feeding, and manual handling.
This role is subject to an Enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.
