We are currently recruiting on behalf of a well-established further education college in North Manchester for a skilled and dedicated Communication Support Worker (CSW) to join their team from September 2026. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity supporting students with a range of Special Educational Needs (SEN), with a particular focus on learners who are Deaf or have hearing impairments.

The Role

As a Communication Support Worker, you will play a vital role in ensuring students can fully access learning by facilitating effective communication between learners and teaching staff. Students may present with:

  • Hearing impairments / Deaf learners
  • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
  • Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
  • Additional learning difficulties

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing British Sign Language (BSL) interpretation in lessons
  • Supporting students on a 1:1 and small group basis
  • Adapting communication methods to suit individual learner needs
  • Assisting with note-taking and clarification of lesson content
  • Promoting student independence and inclusion within the classroom
  • Working collaboratively with teaching staff and support teams

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Minimum Level 3 qualification in British Sign Language (BSL) - essential
  • Previous experience working as a CSW or supporting Deaf learners in an educational setting
  • A strong understanding of inclusive communication strategies
  • Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills
  • A patient, adaptable, and supportive approach
