We are seeking an exceptional and experienced PMLD Learning Support Specialist to join our dedicated SEND team. This is a highly rewarding opportunity to support learners with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD), enabling them to access education, develop communication skills, and achieve meaningful outcomes. The successful candidate will have significant experience working with learners who have complex learning difficulties, physical disabilities, sensory impairments, and complex medical needs. You will play a vital role in supporting learners’ educational, physical, emotional, and personal care needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist one-to-one and small group support for learners with PMLD.
  • Support learners to engage in sensory, communication, life skills, and curriculum-based activities.
  • Deliver high-quality personal care, ensuring dignity, respect, and wellbeing at all times.
  • Administer medication and support learners with complex healthcare needs in accordance with individual healthcare plans.
  • Support learners requiring PEG feeding following established protocols and training.
  • Undertake manual handling duties, including the safe use of hoists, slings, wheelchairs, standing frames, and specialist equipment.
  • Support learners with physical disabilities, sensory impairments, epilepsy, and other complex medical conditions.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, nursing staff, families, and external agencies.
  • Monitor learner progress and contribute to education, health, and care planning.
  • Maintain accurate records relating to learner support, personal care, medication, and wellbeing.
  • Promote independence, communication, choice-making, and learner-centred approaches.

Essential Requirements

  • Proven experience supporting learners with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD).
  • Experience supporting learners with complex medical and physical needs.
  • Current training and practical experience in:
    • Personal Care
    • Moving and Handling
    • Hoist Operation
    • Medication Administration
    • PEG Feeding
    • Safeguarding
  • Knowledge of sensory learning approaches and communication methods.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to remain calm, patient, and responsive in a complex support environment.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Level 3 qualification (or above) in Education, SEND, Health & Social Care, or a related field.
  • Makaton, Intensive Interaction, PECS, or AAC experience.
  • First Aid qualification.
  • Experience working within specialist schools, colleges, or SEND provisions.
