About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Targeted Support Mentor to provide personalised support to students who require additional assistance to achieve their academic, personal, and developmental goals.
The successful candidate will work closely with learners who may face barriers to learning, including Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), literacy and numeracy difficulties, social, emotional, or behavioural challenges, and personal care needs.
Through targeted interventions and one-to-one support, you will help students engage in learning, build confidence, and achieve positive outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver targeted one-to-one and small-group support to learners requiring additional intervention.
- Support the development of literacy, numeracy, study skills, and independent learning.
- Assist students in achieving their EHCP outcomes, individual targets, and progression goals.
- Identify barriers to learning and implement strategies to improve engagement and achievement.
- Provide mentoring and coaching to build confidence, resilience, motivation, and self-esteem.
- Support learners with personal care needs where required, including mobility assistance, toileting, feeding, and personal hygiene.
- Work collaboratively with tutors, learning support staff, parents/carers, and external professionals.
- Monitor and record learner progress and contribute to reviews and support plans.
- Promote positive behaviour, attendance, wellbeing, and safeguarding.
- Support learners during enrichment activities, work experience, and community-based learning opportunities.
Essential Requirements
- Experience supporting young people or adults in an educational, SEND, mentoring, youth work, or care setting.
- Strong literacy and numeracy skills.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to motivate and engage learners with diverse needs.
- Experience or willingness to provide personal care support.
- Commitment to inclusion, safeguarding, and learner-centred practice.
Desirable Experience
- Experience working with learners with SEND, autism, ADHD, SEMH, PMLD, or complex needs.
- Knowledge of EHCPs and person-centred planning.
- Qualifications in Education, SEND, Health & Social Care, Youth Work, or Mentoring.
- Training in manual handling, medication administration, PEG feeding, Makaton, or positive behaviour support.
