Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small group learning support to students with SEND across a range of curriculum areas.
- Support learners with Autism (ASC), ADHD, SEMH, learning disabilities and physical disabilities.
- Assist students with personal care, including toileting, changing, feeding and mobility support where required.
- Promote independence, confidence and engagement in learning.
- Adapt learning activities under the direction of teaching staff.
- Support students both in mainstream classrooms and specialist learning environments.
- Maintain accurate records of learner progress and daily support provided.
- Assist with implementing EHCP targets and individual support plans.
- Encourage positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing.
- Work collaboratively with lecturers, the Additional Learning Support Team and safeguarding staff.
- Follow all safeguarding, health & safety and dignity in care procedures.
- Participate in meetings, training and college activities as required.
Skills & Experience
- Previous experience supporting students or adults with SEND.
- Experience providing personal care within education, care or support settings.
- Good understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Patient, compassionate and reliable approach.
- Able to work independently and use initiative.
- Basic IT skills including Microsoft Word, Outlook and email.
- Understanding of equality, diversity and inclusive practice.
- Manual Handling, Team Teach or Positive Behaviour Support training is desirable.
- Previous Further Education or school experience is advantageous.
Qualifications
- GCSE English and Maths (Grade 4/C or equivalent) preferred.
- Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Health & Social Care, Supporting Teaching & Learning or related field desirable.
- Relevant SEND or Autism training is advantageous.
- Compliance Requirements
- Enhanced DBS Certificate (Child Workforce) registered on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
- Right to work in the UK.
- Two satisfactory employment references.
- Commitment to safeguarding and Prevent Duty requirements.
- Willingness to undertake mandatory compliance training before starting.
