This is a rare opportunity to shape enterprise architecture at an organisational level, leading the strategic direction for technology, data, AI and cyber security across a complex digital estate. Reporting into senior digital leadership, you will play a pivotal role in driving enterprise-wide transformation, ensuring technology investments align with business strategy while embedding secure‑by‑design principles and modern architectural standards.
The Opportunity
As Chief Enterprise Architect, you will lead the organisation's Architecture function across Enterprise, Solution, Data, AI and Security Architecture. Working closely with executive stakeholders, delivery teams and government partners, you will define the long‑term architectural vision and provide governance across major digital programmes. This is a highly strategic role requiring exceptional stakeholder management, strong leadership and the ability to balance long‑term architecture with pragmatic delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and own the organisation's Enterprise Architecture strategy, standards and roadmap.
- Lead architecture across Enterprise, Solution, Security, Data and AI domains.
- Develop enterprise‑wide technology, data and AI roadmaps aligned with organisational priorities.
- Champion Secure by Design principles, Zero Trust architecture and cyber resilience.
- Chair Technical Design Authority (TDA) and provide architectural governance across major programmes.
- Lead architectural assurance, ensuring solutions align with enterprise standards and best practice.
- Drive enterprise Data Architecture, AI governance and ethical AI frameworks.
- Collaborate closely with senior leaders including Technology, Data and Cyber Security teams.
- Mentor and lead Architecture teams while building a strong architectural community.
- Provide strategic advice on emerging technologies, cloud platforms, AI and digital transformation.
- Work with suppliers and delivery partners to ensure architectural consistency and value for money.
- Ensure architecture enables innovation while maintaining security, scalability and resilience.
About You
We're looking for an experienced Enterprise Architect who has successfully led architecture functions within large, complex organisations and can influence at executive level.
Essential Experience
- Significant experience leading Enterprise Architecture functions across large‑scale organisations.
- Proven experience defining Enterprise Architecture strategy, governance and standards.
- Strong knowledge of Enterprise, Solution, Data and Security Architecture.
- Experience developing enterprise technology roadmaps and target operating models.
- Strong understanding of Secure by Design, Zero Trust and cyber security principles.
- Experience leading Data Architecture and AI strategy, including governance and ethical AI.
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence Executive leadership.
- Experience chairing Technical Design Authorities and Architecture Governance Boards.
- Strong knowledge of cloud architecture, particularly Microsoft Azure.
- Experience working with architecture frameworks such as TOGAF, ArchiMate or UML.
Desirable
- TOGAF, BCS Enterprise Architecture or equivalent certification.
- Microsoft Azure Solution Architect Expert certification.
- Previous experience within Central Government, Regulatory Bodies or the wider Public Sector.
- Experience working within Government Digital & Data standards and frameworks.
