About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and experienced

Complex Needs Learning Support Assistant to support learners with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD), autism, physical disabilities, sensory impairments, and complex medical needs.

This is a rewarding and specialist role requiring an individual who can provide high-quality educational, personal care, and healthcare support, enabling learners to access education safely and achieve their individual goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to learners with complex SEND needs.
  • Support learners to access educational, vocational, sensory, and life-skills activities.
  • Deliver personal care, including toileting, changing, feeding, dressing, and personal hygiene support.
  • Administer medication in accordance with individual healthcare plans and organisational policies.
  • Support learners requiring PEG feeding and other specialist medical interventions.
  • Undertake manual handling duties, including the safe use of hoists, slings, wheelchairs, standing frames, and specialist equipment.
  • Support learners with mobility, positioning, and physical disabilities.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, healthcare professionals, and families.
  • Promote learner independence, communication, wellbeing, and inclusion.
  • Maintain accurate records relating to learner support, medication, and care requirements.
  • Follow safeguarding, health and safety, infection control, and risk management procedures at all times.

Essential Requirements

  • Experience supporting children or young adults with SEND and complex needs.
  • Proven experience delivering personal care.
  • Training and practical experience in manual handling and the use of moving and handling equipment.
  • Experience administering medication.
  • Experience supporting learners with PEG feeding and complex medical needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work calmly and effectively in a challenging but rewarding environment.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting learner welfare.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning, Health & Social Care, SEND, or a related field.
  • Training in Moving & Handling, Medication Administration, PEG Feeding, First Aid, and Safeguarding.
  • Experience supporting learners with autism, PMLD, epilepsy, or sensory impairments.
  • Knowledge of communication approaches such as Makaton, PECS, AAC, or Intensive Interaction.
