Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group learning support to students with SEND across a range of curriculum areas.
  • Support learners with Autism (ASC), ADHD, SEMH, learning disabilities and physical disabilities.
  • Assist students with personal care, including toileting, changing, feeding and mobility support where required.
  • Promote independence, confidence and engagement in learning.
  • Adapt learning activities under the direction of teaching staff.
  • Support students both in mainstream classrooms and specialist learning environments.
  • Maintain accurate records of learner progress and daily support provided.
  • Assist with implementing EHCP targets and individual support plans.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing.
  • Work collaboratively with lecturers, the Additional Learning Support Team and safeguarding staff.
  • Follow all safeguarding, health & safety and dignity in care procedures.
  • Participate in meetings, training and college activities as required.

Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience supporting students or adults with SEND.
  • Experience providing personal care within education, care or support settings.
  • Good understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Patient, compassionate and reliable approach.
  • Able to work independently and use initiative.
  • Basic IT skills including Microsoft Word, Outlook and email.
  • Understanding of equality, diversity and inclusive practice.
  • Manual Handling, Team Teach or Positive Behaviour Support training is desirable.
  • Previous Further Education or school experience is advantageous.

Qualifications

  • GCSE English and Maths (Grade 4/C or equivalent) preferred.
  • Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Health & Social Care, Supporting Teaching & Learning or related field desirable.
  • Relevant SEND or Autism training is advantageous.
  • Compliance Requirements
  • Enhanced DBS Certificate (Child Workforce) registered on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
  • Right to work in the UK.
  • Two satisfactory employment references.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and Prevent Duty requirements.
  • Willingness to undertake mandatory compliance training before starting.
