The Safeguarding Officer role focuses on protecting students, promoting wellbeing, and ensuring compliance with safeguarding legislation and policies. This position is vital in supporting and safeguarding young people and vulnerable adults while managing safeguarding concerns and interventions.
Key Responsibilities
- Support and safeguard young people and vulnerable adults.
- Manage safeguarding concerns, disclosures, referrals, and interventions.
- Maintain accurate safeguarding records using systems such as MyConcern.
- Act as a key contact for students receiving mental health and wellbeing support.
- Liaise with external agencies including social services and local authorities.
- Provide one-to-one and group support for students experiencing wellbeing or mental health challenges.
- Develop and deliver wellbeing initiatives, workshops, and awareness activities.
- Deliver safeguarding training and guidance to staff.
- Monitor compliance with safeguarding and Prevent policies.
- Participate in multi-agency meetings and advocate for students' welfare.
Qualifications
- Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Education, Youth Work, or a related field.
- Level 3-5 qualification in Safeguarding, Child Protection, or Mental Health.
- Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) training or willingness to undertake it.
- Prevent Awareness Training.
- Mental Health First Aid qualification.
- GCSE/Level 2 English and Maths (or equivalent).
Experience Requirements
- Experience working in safeguarding, student support, or social care.
- Strong understanding of safeguarding legislation and procedures.
- Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information.
- Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills.
- Experience working with external agencies and multidisciplinary teams.
