Morgan Hunt are delighted to be supporting s public sector client as they are looking to welcome a Category Manager to the team on a full time and permanent basis.
This role reports to the Head of Procurement and you will support 3 Procurement Specialists.
- Main Responsibilities
- Lead and manage complex procurement projects across your allocated portfolio from planning through to completion.
- Develop category strategies that deliver value, reduce costs and manage risk while improving supplier performance.
- Manage and support a small procurement team by allocating work and providing professional advice and guidance.
- Lead the full procurement process including strategy, tendering, evaluation, negotiation and contract award.
- Build strong relationships with colleagues and suppliers while providing clear and practical procurement advice.
- Identify opportunities to improve procurement through better processes, strategic sourcing and collaborative approaches.
- Promote sustainable procurement by considering social value, community benefits, fair work and environmental impact.
- Support contract management and negotiation while working closely with legal and contract specialists.
- Promote good governance and compliance through audits, risk management, policy development, training and process improvement.
- Provide senior support across the procurement function, including deputising for the Head of Procurement when required.
Experience
- Proven procurement experience with a strong understanding of public sector regulations, compliance and best practice.
- Experience developing effective category strategies that support business needs, market conditions and organisational goals.
- Strong commercial and analytical skills, with the ability to manage risk, resolve complex issues and contribute to strategic decisions.
- Ability to lead and develop others through effective coaching, mentoring, knowledge sharing and resource planning.
- Confident using Microsoft Office and digital procurement systems, with the ability to analyse data and support informed decision-making.
- Relevant professional qualifications or equivalent experience are desirable, along with knowledge of contract law, project management and multi-site working.
