We are looking for a compassionate, proactive and experienced Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (IDVA) to join our team in Essex.

Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (IDVA)

Location: Essex
Working Pattern: Monday to Friday
Office Requirement: 1 day per week in the office
Reporting to: IDVA Service Manager / Senior IDVA
Role Type: Frontline Domestic Abuse Support

The role will provide frontline support to victims of domestic abuse, with a particular focus on high-risk cases. You will work closely with clients to assess risk, develop safety plans, provide advocacy and help them access appropriate services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of high-risk domestic abuse cases.
  • Complete risk assessments and develop individual safety plans.
  • Provide practical, emotional and crisis support to victims and their children.
  • Advocate for clients with housing, health, legal, financial and other support services.
  • Work closely with partner agencies and contribute to MARAC meetings.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential case records.
  • Follow safeguarding, confidentiality, data protection and information-sharing procedures.
  • Empower clients to make informed decisions and regain control of their lives.

About You

You will ideally have:

  • Experience working with vulnerable people and managing a caseload.
  • Strong understanding of domestic abuse, safeguarding and risk management.
  • Experience working within a multi-agency environment.
  • Excellent communication, advocacy and negotiation skills.
  • Strong crisis-management skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • A compassionate, empathetic and non-judgemental approach.
  • SafeLives IDVA qualification or relevant equivalent experience/qualification, or willingness to undertake the required training.

This role is subject to an Enhanced DBS check.
