The Acquisitions Officer will support the delivery of the Council's temporary accommodation and housing supply objectives by identifying, assessing, negotiating, and securing suitable residential properties for use as temporary accommodation or private sector housing. The role involves working closely with landlords, agents, developers, housing providers, and internal stakeholders to increase housing supply and ensure value for money while meeting statutory housing obligations.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and secure residential properties suitable for temporary accommodation and private sector leasing schemes.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with landlords, managing agents, developers, and housing associations.
- Negotiate lease terms, rental agreements, and acquisition packages in line with council procedures and budget requirements.
- Carry out property inspections to ensure compliance with housing standards, health and safety requirements, and council specifications.
- Assess property suitability, condition, location, and value for money.
- Liaise with Legal, Finance, Housing Needs, and Property teams to progress acquisitions efficiently.
- Ensure all documentation, agreements, and records are maintained accurately and in line with GDPR requirements.
- Monitor market trends and identify opportunities to increase accommodation supply.
- Support initiatives aimed at reducing the use of expensive temporary accommodation.
- Prepare reports, updates, and performance data for management.
- Ensure compliance with relevant housing legislation, procurement policies, and safeguarding procedures.
