An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and ambitious construction professional to step into a senior leadership role within Further Education. We are working with a highly respected education provider in Cambridge that is seeking an Assistant Head of Department- Construction to support the delivery, development, and growth of its Construction provision. This is a fantastic opportunity for somebody with strong industry knowledge, leadership experience, and a passion for developing both staff and learners within a thriving FE environment.
The Role
As Assistant Head of Department, you will play a key role in supporting the management and day‑to‑day operations of the Construction department. You will help drive curriculum quality, learner achievement, staff performance, and departmental growth across a range of construction disciplines. You will work closely with the Head of Department to ensure high standards of teaching, learning, and assessment while helping shape the strategic direction of the department.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the leadership and management of the Construction department
- Line manage and support teaching staff across construction programmes
- Drive high-quality teaching, learning, and learner outcomes
- Assist with curriculum planning, timetabling, and quality assurance processes

Requirements
- Relevant Construction qualification (Level 3 minimum, higher qualifications desirable)
- Teaching qualification
- Previous management or leadership experience within Further Education or training
- Strong occupational experience within the Construction sector
- Excellent communication, organisational, and leadership skills
- Assessor/IQA qualifications are advantageous
