We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Specialist SEND Support Practitioner to support learners with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD), complex medical needs, physical disabilities, sensory impairments, and autism. This is a specialist role requiring an individual who is trained and competent in personal care, manual handling, medication administration, and PEG feeding. You will work closely with teachers, therapists, healthcare professionals, and families to deliver outstanding learner-centred support that enables students to thrive and achieve their individual outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialist support to learners with PMLD and complex SEND needs.
- Deliver high-quality personal care whilst maintaining dignity, privacy, and respect.
- Administer prescribed medication in line with healthcare plans and organisational procedures.
- Support learners who require PEG feeding and other specialist healthcare interventions.
- Undertake manual handling duties, including the safe use of hoists, slings, wheelchairs, standing frames, and specialist equipment.
- Support learners with communication needs using approaches such as Makaton, PECS, AAC, and Intensive Interaction where appropriate.
- Assist learners in accessing educational, sensory, therapeutic, and life-skills activities.
- Monitor learner wellbeing and report concerns promptly.
- Maintain accurate records relating to care, medication, and learner progress.
- Promote independence, choice-making, inclusion, and positive outcomes for all learners.
Essential Requirements
- Significant experience supporting learners with SEND, PMLD, and complex needs.

- Strong understanding of learner-centred practice and inclusive education.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
Desirable Qualifications
- Level 3 or above in Health & Social Care, Education, SEND, or a related discipline.
- Makaton, PECS, AAC, or Intensive Interaction training.
- First Aid qualification.
- Experience within a specialist school, college, or SEND provision.
