We are seeking a skilled and motivated Sous Chef to join a busy college kitchen in East London on a full-time basis. This is a fantastic opportunity for a passionate culinary professional to support the Head Chef in delivering high-quality, nutritious meals to students and staff in a fast-paced educational environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Head Chef in the daily running of the kitchen
  • Prepare and cook fresh, nutritious meals in line with menu specifications
  • Assist in planning menus that cater to a diverse range of dietary needs and preferences
  • Supervise and guide kitchen staff, ensuring high standards of food preparation and presentation
  • Maintain strict food hygiene and health & safety standards in accordance with regulations
  • Monitor stock levels, assist with ordering, and minimise food waste
  • Ensure all kitchen equipment is used and maintained correctly
  • Contribute to a positive and efficient working environment

Requirements

  • Previous experience working as a Sous Chef or in a similar role
  • Relevant culinary qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 2/3 in Professional Cookery or equivalent)
  • Strong knowledge of food hygiene, allergen awareness, and health & safety standards
  • Experience working in high-volume catering environments (education or contract catering desirable)
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure and manage multiple tasks
  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Good communication and organisational abilities
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards of food quality and service
