We are seeking a proactive and skilled Construction Technician to join our successful Construction Department. This is an exciting opportunity to support the delivery of high-quality vocational education and help develop the next generation of construction professionals. Working closely with lecturers and learners, you will prepare workshops, maintain equipment, support practical sessions, and ensure that all learning environments meet the highest standards of health and safety.
Typical responsibilities for FE Construction Technicians include:
- Preparing materials and equipment for practical lessons.
- Supporting lecturers during construction training sessions.
- Maintaining construction workshops and storage areas to a high standard.
- Monitoring and controlling stock levels, ordering materials when required.
- Carrying out routine maintenance and safety checks on tools and equipment.
- Ensuring compliance with Health & Safety legislation and college procedures.
- Assisting students with practical activities and demonstrations where appropriate.
- Supporting open days, employer engagement events and learner enrichment activities.
- Maintaining accurate records relating to equipment, servicing and inventory.
The successful candidate will have:
- Relevant industry experience in one or more construction trades (e.g. brickwork, carpentry, plumbing, painting & decorating or multi-skills).
- Knowledge of workshop health and safety requirements.
- A Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in a construction-related discipline.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills.
- The ability to work effectively with both staff and students.
- A proactive and flexible approach to supporting teaching and learning.
Desirable:
- Previous experience working in a college, training provider or educational setting.
- First Aid qualification.
- Experience supporting apprentices or vocational learners.
