Job Title: Compliance Officer (Asbestos & Lift Safety)
Job PurposeThe Compliance Officer plays a vital role in ensuring the safety, compliance, and operational integrity of social housing assets. With a primary focus on asbestos management and lift safety, the role is responsible for maintaining statutory compliance in line with current health and safety legislation, regulations, and best practice standards.
This includes managing inspection programmes, overseeing contractor performance, ensuring remedial actions are completed, and maintaining accurate asset records. The role also involves managing budgets effectively to ensure value for money across compliance activity. Working closely with internal teams and external contractors, this role supports a proactive compliance culture that prioritises resident wellbeing and asset longevity.
Key Responsibilities - What You’ll DoEnsure statutory compliance with asbestos and lift safety legislation, regulations, and internal policies across the housing stock.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date asbestos registers and lifting equipment asset records, including all relevant dates and activity logs.
Coordinate asbestos surveys arising from various operational workflows and ensure timely completion of recommendations.
Manage and oversee asbestos removal and remedial works in collaboration with approved contractors.
Commission and monitor statutory inspections of lifts and lifting equipment, ensuring compliance with required intervals.
Review inspection reports, identify required remedial actions, and ensure defects and safety issues are resolved promptly.
Monitor contractor performance against service level agreements, schedules of rates, and contract terms, ensuring customer satisfaction.
Provide advice and guidance to internal teams, residents, and contractors on asbestos and lift compliance.
Support the investigation of incidents or non-compliance involving asbestos materials.
Contribute to the maintenance and regular review of the Asbestos Management Plan.
Support capital works and refurbishment projects by integrating asbestos and lift compliance considerations from design to completion.
Ensure clear and timely resident communication before, during, and after asbestos or lift-related works.
Stay informed of changes in relevant legislation, best practices, and industry standards.
Manage smaller, less frequent compliance programmes as required.
Produce regular compliance reports and updates for senior managers and team leaders.
Support broader health and safety and compliance strategies, including audits, inspections, and improvement plans.
Assist in preparing annual budgets and monthly forecasts to ensure timely and cost-effective compliance delivery.
