Based in Edinburgh, this Payroll Officer role sits within the Finance team and works closely with HR to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing across the organisation.
The Role
Reporting to the Head of Finance, you will be responsible for the end-to-end payroll function, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time while maintaining compliance with payroll legislation and reporting requirements. This is a varied role that combines payroll administration, pension processing, reconciliations, statutory reporting, and payroll system support.
Key Responsibilities
- Process monthly payroll from start to finish, ensuring all deadlines are met.
- Submit payroll information to HMRC and pension providers accurately and on time.
- Reconcile payroll transactions, including overtime, expenses, deductions and pension contributions.
- Support payroll system upgrades, testing and process improvements.
What We're Looking For
Essential
- Previous experience in a Payroll Officer or Payroll Administrator position.
- Experience processing payroll using a computerised payroll system.
- Strong working knowledge of payroll software and Microsoft Office.
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage confidential information appropriately.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to work to deadlines.
Desirable
- Formal payroll qualification.
- Experience working within a Housing Association, charity, public sector or not-for-profit organisation.
