Morgan Hunt is proud to be partnering with an Edinburgh based Charity who are looking to recruit their new Head of Financial Accounting.

About the role - The Head of Financial Accounting is responsible for the overall management and performance of the financial accounting and transaction processing departments. This includes managing all technical accounting, overseeing transaction processing systems, investigating and advising on complex financial issues, and ensuring the accuracy and compliance of statutory accounts and returns. The role also involves providing strategic financial and business planning advice and collaborating with the Head of Reporting to achieve joint goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Produce annual financial statements (group and single entity) and associated notes within required time frames.
  • Prepare and submit returns to regulatory bodies in compliance with published procedures, standards, and timescales.
  • Perform regular reconciliations on control accounts, ensuring accuracy and providing training where necessary.
  • Maximise the financial well being of the organisation through effective treasury management and maintain relationships with financial institutions.
  • Ensure compliance with VAT regulations and manage the production and submission of all indirect tax returns, including VAT and Corporation Tax.
  • Create, implement, and maintain effective policies and procedures to improve the efficiency of the Financial Accounting team.
  • Lead, motivate, and develop staff, ensuring performance management and professional development.
  • Develop and maintain financial systems in collaboration with the Head of Reporting to ensure efficiency in accounting and reporting.
  • Represent the Director in meetings and lead or contribute to internal and cross-functional teams and projects.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  • Highly developed specialist knowledge of financial and accounting procedures, underpinned by theory and experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of financial aspects of charity legislation and finance policies.
  • Professional Accountancy Qualification (e.g., ICAEW, ICAS, ICAI, ACCA) or CIMA.
  • At least 5 years of experience delivering technical accounting services within FRS102 or a similar environment.
  • Experience in staff management and team building.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial planning, and analysis.
  • Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems.
  • Advanced Excel skills for financial modelling, analysis, and reporting.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.

Working Conditions:

  • Hybrid model: Office/home-based.
