A leading Further Education provider seeks a senior consultant to complete a strategic review of its data strategy landscape. You will partner with senior leadership to assess current capability and define a pragmatic roadmap for data, systems, governance, and investment. The engagement is business-facing and outcome-focused, blending technical depth with strategic advisory to improve insight, compliance, and decision-making across the organisation.
Key Details:
- Contract Length: 3 months
- IR35 Status: Outside IR35
- Rate: 400 - 600 per day (negotiable for the right candidate)
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead a holistic review of MIS and data ecosystems, including systems, architecture, and reporting.
- Assess data quality, governance, stewardship, and ownership frameworks with a focus on Master Data Management.
- Evaluate the use of Microsoft data platforms and tools, such as Azure, Power BI, Fabric, and Dataverse.
- Review how data supports funding, ILR, audit, compliance, and performance reporting.
- Identify gaps across people, process, technology, and operating model.
- Produce clear recommendations, target architecture options, and an actionable investment roadmap.
- Facilitate stakeholder workshops and interviews to capture requirements and pain points.
- Define data governance roles, RACI, and minimum viable policies and standards.
- Outline quick wins, phased delivery plan, and success metrics.
- Present findings and business cases to Assistant Principal/Director-level stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- Proven track record delivering enterprise data strategy or MIS assessments in complex environments.
- Strong expertise in data architecture, data governance, and Master Data Management.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft data platforms and BI tooling (Azure, Power BI, Fabric, Dataverse).
- Knowledge of FE/HE funding, ILR requirements, and regulatory compliance in education or public sector.
- Ability to translate technical concepts into business outcomes and investment cases.
- Excellent stakeholder management and facilitation skills at senior leadership level.
- Consulting-grade report writing, options appraisal, and roadmap development.
Requirements:
- Significant experience in data strategy, enterprise architecture, or MIS leadership within FE/HE or regulated public sector.
- Delivery of diagnostic assessments and maturity reviews with measurable outcomes.
- Design of target data operating models, governance frameworks, and MDM approaches.
- Experience building business cases, TCO assessments, and phased transformation plans.
- Track record influencing cross-functional stakeholders and guiding change.
Work Arrangements:
- Fully remote, with flexibility for UK-based candidates.
