Overview
The Commercial Finance Analyst will provide essential financial and analytical support to the Global Performance Carbon Commercial organisation within a global, IFRS-listed Group. The role will deliver high-quality, IFRS-aligned weekly sales, segmental and performance reporting, ensuring data integrity, consistency and robust financial governance across the global structure. Acting as a trusted business partner to the commercial leadership team, the role will provide insight-led analysis to support informed decision-making, challenge performance and drive profitability. The position will identify risks and opportunities across markets, products and customers, and will contribute to Financial Planning and Analysis activities including budgeting, forecasting and scenario modelling. The role will also support performance management through the analysis of key commercial and financial metrics.
In addition, the Commercial Finance Analyst will work very closely with colleagues across the wider GBU Finance function to ensure strong alignment and collaboration across finance activities. This will include supporting cross-functional finance initiatives and projects as required, sharing best practice, and contributing to the effective delivery of finance priorities in support of the GBU’s strategic and operational objectives. The role will also play a key part in coordinating global commercial requests, promoting standardisation of processes and driving continuous improvement across the organisation. The position requires effective engagement with a broad range of global stakeholders and the ability to operate confidently within a complex, matrixed environment. The role operates as an individual contributor with no direct people management responsibility, exercising professional judgement and escalating issues as appropriate.
Responsibilities
- Providing financial analysis and decision support to the Commercial Finance Director and Commercial Regional and Global Segment Directors, acting as a trusted finance partner to the commercial leadership team.
- Supporting initiatives and projects to improve commercial revenue, EBITA, margin performance and working capital, including pricing, product and customer mix optimisation.
- Challenging commercial assumptions and proposals through robust financial analysis to improve decision-making and commercial outcomes.
- Liaising with site controllers and the Commercial Excellence team to ensure effective data stewardship, integrity and consistency of reporting across the GBU.
Financial Planning & Analysis Responsibilities
- Delivering monthly results reporting, forecasting and forward-looking analysis for commercial activities, including customer mix, pricing and geomarkets reporting and working capital performance.
- Providing insightful analysis and commentary on commercial entity sites – understanding the full P&L, Balance Sheet, Cashflow and Profit Bridge, ensuring alignment with IFRS requirements and Group accounting policies.
- Developing scenario analysis and sensitivity modelling to assess commercial risks and opportunities, identifying trends, variances and early warning indicators.
- Taking ownership for the timely and accurate delivery of commercial financial outputs, ensuring analysis is clear, relevant and tailored to stakeholder needs.
Other Responsibilities
- Working closely with stakeholders across the wider GBU Finance function and cross-functional teams including Sales, Operations and Supply Chain to ensure aligned commercial and financial outcomes.
- Assisting in ensuring compliance with internal controls, standardisation and policy adherence for the commercial sites, supporting internal and external audit activities as required.
- Supporting the annual planning process and ongoing financial forecasting for the GBU.
- Contributing to the development and continuous improvement of commercial finance systems, tools and reporting processes, driving efficiency, automation and improved data quality.
- Sharing best practice across sites, segments and the wider finance function, supporting the development of finance capability through knowledge sharing and coaching where appropriate.
- Undertaking ad hoc analysis and projects in support of strategic and operational priorities.
- Proactively challenging existing processes and working practices to drive continuous improvement.
Key Performance Metrics & Objectives
- Role models the prompt completion of safety, ethics & compliance and finance training and performance management documentation.
- Provides timely, decision-relevant information and insight; delivers error‑free work on or before deadlines.
- Drives effective working capital management, ensuring actions are completed timely and site targets are achieved.
- Identifies and delivers incremental process and data improvements that enhance reporting accuracy, reduce manual effort and improve the timeliness and quality of commercial insight.
- Demonstrates sound judgement in handling commercially sensitive and confidential information in line with Group policies and ethical standards.
Qualifications
- Degree educated
- 3+ years’ relevant experience in finance and accounting
- Professional accounting qualification preferred (e.g. CIMA, ACCA, ACA or equivalent European qualification)
- A working knowledge of IFRS and its application within a listed, international group environment is highly desirable.
