We are a friendly, patient‑focused GP surgery based on the Wirral seeking a reliable and professional Receptionist to join our small supportive team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working with people, thrives in a busy environment, and takes pride in providing a high standard of customer service. Applicants must be self‑motivated, able to work under pressure, eager to learn, and have excellent communication and IT skills. The role requires the ability to work as part of a team. Experience of working in General Practice or other NHS setting is preferable, however full training will be given. The role requires a flexible approach to working to provide additional cover when required and the ability to adapt to change.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way, following practice protocols and procedures.
  • Provide general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone.
  • Opening and closing the practice and ensuring premises remain secure in line with practice procedures.
  • Welcoming patients and visitors to the surgery in a professional and compassionate manner.
  • Managing incoming telephone calls and booking appointments.
  • Handling patient enquiries and directing requests appropriately.
  • Maintaining accurate patient records and updating information where required.
  • Processing prescriptions and administrative requests in line with surgery procedures.
  • Confidently using a range of practice systems and software to manage appointments, patient records, and administrative tasks.
  • Ensuring confidentiality is maintained at all times.

Experience

  • Experience of working in a GP practice or NHS office environment.

Qualifications

  • GCSE Grade A to C or 4 to 9 in English and Maths (or equivalent).
  • Previous relevant experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Experience in a receptionist or administrative role.
