Tired of being measured purely on sales? Want to get back to delivering genuinely valuable advice to farmers? This is an opportunity to join a well-established, independent agricultural research and advisory organisation, working with a loyal and compact client base across Shropshire and the West Midlands. Here, your credibility comes from your expertise, not product sales.
The Role
- This is a technical, knowledge-led agronomy position with a light commercial edge, focused far more on trusted advice and long-term relationships than product sales.
- Manage an existing portfolio of farming clients (ranging from 100-1,000 acres), no expectation to bring over an existing ledger, although this would be a bonus.
- Provide agronomic advice across predominantly combinable crops, with some exposure to potatoes.
- Operate in a compact territory across Shropshire and the West Midlands.
- Enjoy a high degree of autonomy, with flexibility to manage your own schedule.
- Take a consultative approach, with scope to support clients on wider farm business matters (e.g. farm consultancy, SFI, strategy, financial planning) if of interest.
- Collaborate with a wider national team, accessing specialist expertise across areas such as soils, nutrition, entomology and crop science.
- This is a largely independent role, with colleagues based regionally and team meet-ups a few times per year.
The Person
- We're looking for someone who is technically strong, naturally curious, and motivated by delivering highâquality advice.
- BASIS qualified (preferred), FACTS desirable but not critical.
- Background in agronomy, or someone looking to return to the sector.
- Technically minded with an interest in continuous learning and development.
- Commercially aware, but not driven by hard sales targets.
- Selfâsufficient and comfortable managing their own diary and client base.
- Enjoys building longâterm relationships with farmers.
Why This Role?
- Established client base - no expectation to bring a ledger.
- Access to R&D - opportunity to get involved in trials and innovation (including nearby research sites).
- Professional development - extensive internal and external training, including specialist areas.
- Career progression - part of a growing agronomy team with clear plans to expand.
- Industry exposure - opportunities to attend and speak at key events and conferences.
If you're an agronomist who values independence, technical depth, and the ability to shape your role around your interests, this is a position worth exploring.
