The farm plays a central role in supporting practical learning and student development, so the successful individual will need to be equally comfortable managing farming operations and working with people. Significant investment has been made into the farming operation and its future development, and the business is now looking to appoint a strong working farm manager who can continue building on this progress while creating an excellent working and learning environment.
The Role
- Overseeing all day-to-day farm operations (arable and livestock)
- Managing livestock enterprises to high technical and welfare standards
- Leading and supporting a small on-farm team
- Working alongside teaching and support staff to facilitate practical training
- Creating a safe, organised and student-focused environment
- Managing budgets, cashflows, compliance, record keeping and grant applications
- Driving strong health & safety standards across the business
- Supporting practical work experience and hands-on learning opportunities
- Representing the farm within the wider agricultural industry
This role requires someone who can balance commercial farming priorities with a positive and supportive approach to working with students and colleagues.
The Person
The business is open-minded on background and level of previous management experience. Attitude, communication skills and leadership potential are just as important as technical ability.
You will ideally have:
- Strong practical farming experience
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- A hands-on and approachable management style
- The ability to build relationships across a range of stakeholders
- Good organisational and planning ability
- A strong understanding of health & safety and animal welfare
- An interest in developing and supporting the next generation entering the industry
Previous experience within a training, education or demonstration farm environment would be advantageous, but is not essential.
