We have an exciting opportunity for a Fresh Produce Technical Manager. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a pivotal role in supporting and influencing the business, ensuring that technical excellence is embedded within category decisions, supplier relationships and product development.
Responsibilities
- Managing specifications and ensuring these are accurately communicated and implemented throughout the business and supply base.
- Managing supplier approval, due diligence controls and audit requirements.
- Working closely with QA teams across packing sites to ensure specifications are consistently met.
- Influencing supplier selection and supply calendar decisions to ensure customers receive the highest quality products at the right price.
- Supporting the delivery of new product and varietal plans alongside procurement teams.
- Driving packaging reduction initiatives and supporting sustainability objectives across the supply base.
- Monitoring industry developments and implementing actions to mitigate any potential risks relating to product safety, quality, legality or availability.
- Regularly visiting suppliers and stores across the UK and overseas to assess product performance and drive quality improvements.
Qualifications
- We’re looking for an experienced fresh produce technical professional who combines strong food industry knowledge with excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills.
- Experience in a technical role within retail food manufacturing or fresh produce.
- Experience conducting internal and supplier audits.
- Strong knowledge of food safety, quality and legal requirements.
- The ability to translate technical issues into clear, commercially focused solutions.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- A logical, evidence-based approach with strong influencing capabilities.
- HACCP Level 3, Internal Auditor/BRC training or Lead Assessor qualifications (desirable).
- A full UK driving licence and the flexibility to travel extensively within the UK and overseas.
