The Role
As Nursery Manager, you'll take full day-to-day responsibility for the site, its people, and the quality of the crops produced. You'll be the key decision-maker on the ground, ensuring plants are grown, maintained and presented to the highest standards.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading, motivating and developing a team of full-time and seasonal staff
- Managing potting, shaping, stock presentation and general crop quality
- Making hands-on growing decisions across shrubs, perennials and 2L production
- Planning and overseeing irrigation strategies
- Monitoring crops for pests, diseases, nutrition and irrigation issues
- Maintaining high standards of plant health, biosecurity and hygiene
- Working with the Production Manager on rotations, space planning and seasonal schedules
- Ensuring safe working practices, COSHH compliance and accurate record keeping
- Supporting out-of-hours cover for irrigation and spray applications when required
This is a practical, site-based leadership role - ideal for someone who wants to be out in the nursery, not behind a desk.
About You
You'll be a great fit if you are:
- Experienced in nursery production, ideally with shrubs/perennials
- Confident leading teams and setting high standards
- Hands-on, proactive and comfortable making independent decisions
- Strong on plant health, irrigation and general growing practices
- Organised, reliable and able to keep operations running smoothly
- PA1/PA6 qualified (or willing to work towards it)
