Horticulture Sales and Purchasing Executive (SW22137) Banstead, England

Know your plants and looking for something more commercial?

Want a role where no two days are the same, and you can get involved in both sales and purchasing?

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a well-established horticultural business that's been supplying plants to landscapers, garden designers, amenity clients and garden centres for over 40 years.

They're looking for someone who knows plants, enjoys building relationships, and wants to play a key role in the commercial side of horticulture. Whether your background is sales, purchasing, garden centres or landscaping, this is an opportunity to broaden your experience and make a real impact.

What's on offer?

  • Join a well-established business with a strong reputation in the industry
  • Opportunity to develop skills across both sales and purchasing
  • Exposure to UK and European suppliers
  • Industry events, trade shows and supplier visits
  • Training and support for the right person
  • A fast-paced, knowledgeable and passionate team

What's the job?

This role is a genuine blend of sales and purchasing. With a product range spanning more than 10,000 plant varieties sourced from UK and European growers, no two days are quite the same.

On the sales side, you'll spend part of your time supporting customers, preparing quotations, converting enquiries into orders and building relationships.

The purchasing element of the role will see you sourcing stock, managing supplier relationships and ensuring the nursery has the right plants available at the right time.

It's a fast-moving environment, with stock frequently arriving and leaving the site the same day. Understanding what customers want and reacting quickly is a key part of the role.

This isn't a role where you can sit behind a screen all day. You'll be out on the nursery, reviewing stock, speaking with suppliers, understanding what's selling, and helping drive the commercial success of the business.

Day to day, you'll be:

  • Handling sales enquiries by phone and email
  • Preparing quotations and following them through to order
  • Building relationships with landscapers, designers, architects and garden centres
  • Purchasing plants and stock from UK and European suppliers
  • Monitoring stock levels and identifying purchasing opportunities
  • Maintaining a strong understanding of current nursery stock and availability
  • Preparing weekly availability lists for customers
  • Visiting customers and suppliers across the UK and Europe
  • Working closely with sales, purchasing and nursery teams to ensure orders are fulfilled efficiently

What do I need?

  • Strong horticultural knowledge
  • Experience within horticulture – this could be a background in garden centres, landscaping, plant supply or a related industry
  • Commercial awareness, with experience in either plant sales or purchasing (or an interest in learning the other side)
  • Confidence building relationships with both customers and suppliers
  • A proactive attitude and willingness to get stuck in
  • Good organisation and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Comfortable working both in the office and out on the nursery
  • Flexibility to travel when required
  • Experience in both sales and purchasing would be fantastic, but it's not essential.

They'll happily consider someone who has experience in one discipline and wants to learn the other, provided you've got the right attitude and horticultural knowledge.

More than anything, they're looking for someone who cares about the industry, enjoys working with people, and wants to build a long-term career in horticulture.
