Are you a creative retailer who loves building displays, developing a team and making a shop floor look its absolute best? We're working with a successful independent garden centre that is looking for a Floor Manager to join its management team. This isn't a role for someone who wants to manage from the office. They're looking for somebody who enjoys being out on the floor, getting involved, spotting what could be better and working alongside the team to make it happen.

The Role

You’ll be responsible for helping drive the retail side of the garden centre, working across a varied product range including garden sundries, gifting, seasonal and lifestyle. A big part of the role is creativity. Whether that’s putting together an eye-catching seasonal display, improving how a range is presented or simply spotting an opportunity to make an area more commercial, you’ll have the freedom to bring ideas to the table. You’ll also be a key people manager within the business, leading from the front and helping create a positive, motivated team.

Day to day, you’ll be:

  • Leading and supporting the team across the shop floor
  • Creating and maintaining strong, commercial displays
  • Taking ownership of merchandising and presentation standards
  • Working across seasonal, gifting, sundries and other retail departments
  • Making sure stock is in the right place at the right time
  • Supporting seasonal changeovers and key trading periods
  • Coaching and developing the team
  • Keeping a close eye on sales and looking for ways to improve performance
  • Getting stuck in wherever needed to keep the department running smoothly

What Are We Looking For?

Ideally, you’ll already have experience within a garden centre or garden retail environment, particularly across areas such as sundries, gifting or seasonal. That said, attitude and fit are just as important. This is an independent business, so they’re looking for someone who is comfortable thinking for themselves rather than relying on a heavily structured corporate way of working.

You’ll need to be:

  • A strong and approachable people manager
  • Creative, with a genuine eye for displays and merchandising
  • Commercially minded
  • Hands-on and happy to get involved
  • Comfortable working across different retail departments
  • Able to adapt quickly during busy seasonal periods
  • Full of ideas and confident enough to put them forward
  • A real all-rounder who understands what makes a great shop floor tick

You might currently be a Floor Manager, Department Manager, Shop Manager, Assistant Manager or Retail Manager looking for your next move.
