Location: North Devon
£40,000 – £50,000 + Benefits (Health scheme, car, laptop, 20 + 8 holidays, pension)

The Company

A long-established, family-run horticultural business that has grown steadily over the years, this company has built a strong reputation for quality, reliability, and creativity across the Southwest.

Their landscaping division has expanded significantly, delivering a wide range of projects, from domestic gardens to show builds, all within a roughly 50-mile radius of their base. They\’re proud of their roots in the region but remain open to further growth opportunities.

Collaboration sits at the heart of their approach – the teams work closely together to share expertise, resources, and strong supplier relationships that underpin the business\’s continued success.

The Role

This is a key leadership role overseeing the landscaping division – managing all aspects of the operation as if it were your own.

You’ll take responsibility for project delivery from enquiry through to completion: quoting, sourcing materials, coordinating staff, managing clients, and ensuring projects meet the company\’s high standards. You’ll be supported by a long-standing Contracts Manager and a capable team of landscapers, with room to develop and refine the operation as you go.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing the day-to-day operations of the landscaping team (around 10 staff).
  • Overseeing domestic and occasional commercial projects, including show gardens.
  • Preparing quotes, managing suppliers, buying materials, and overseeing invoicing.
  • Ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to specification.
  • Leading on-site health & safety and compliance.
  • Maintaining strong client and supplier relationships and identifying new opportunities.

This position has opened due to the current director stepping back from operational duties, offering the successful candidate autonomy and genuine ownership of the landscaping arm.

The Candidate

You’ll bring a solid background in landscape construction and contracts management, with experience across both hard and soft landscaping. You’ll be confident leading teams, managing multiple projects, and building lasting client relationships.

Requirements

  • 3-4 years\’ experience in contracts or project management within landscaping.
  • Experience in installation rather than maintenance.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Proven experience with quotes, procurement, budgets, and invoicing.
  • Strong understanding of health & safety and site management.
  • AutoCAD skills beneficial (training available).
  • A proactive, steady leader who can guide and motivate a skilled team.

You’ll join a settled and supportive team, including a junior contracts manager, with plenty of scope for mentoring, development, and long-term success.
