Horticulture Nursery Manager

Want to lead a nursery where you can make your mark?
Looking for a role where your ideas matter and you\’re part of the long‑term future?
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a well‑established, family‑run nursery producing young trees, hedging plants and seasonal bedding. With 8 hectares of glass plus outdoor production, they\’re looking for a practical, committed Nursery Manager to help drive the business forward.
You\’ll be joining a genuinely supportive team that cares deeply about their people, is hands‑on, and wants someone who fits their values as much as their skill set.
Tree experience would be ideal, but strong nursery or glasshouse experience from other crops is absolutely transferable.
What\’s the Job?
You\’ll take full responsibility for day‑to‑day nursery operations across indoor and outdoor production.
You\’ll lead the team, manage crop quality, keep the site running efficiently, and drive continuous improvement.
Day‑to‑day, you\’ll be:
- Leading daily briefings and communicating tasks clearly.
- Planning labour and resources across a 6/7‑day operation
- Managing crop husbandry, watering, feeding and general maintenance
- Monitoring for pest, disease and weed issues.
- Keeping the nursery tidy, safe, and audit‑ready
- Overseeing packhouse operations and quality standards
- Managing inbound and outbound deliveries
- Maintaining accurate growing and production records
- Building relationships with suppliers, breeders, and young plant providers
- Supporting the business as production continues to expand.
This is a hands‑on role where you\’ll set the tone, drive standards, and help shape the team and the site.
What Do I Need?
- Proven experience in nursery or glasshouse production
- Knowledge of growing cycles and crop behaviour
- Strong people management skills and confidence leading a team.
- Ability to coordinate multiple tasks across a busy site.
- A practical mindset with the drive to get stuck in
- Basic IT skills (Excel/Word)
- Flexibility for seasonal demands, including weekends.
- Tree or hedging experience would be a huge bonus, but bedding plant or general commercial nursery production is equally relevant.
Above all, they want someone enthusiastic, committed, and ready to bring fresh ideas.
