Packhouse Manager in Goole

I'm working with a fresh produce business that is looking to bring in a dedicated Packhouse Manager to take ownership of their seasonal packing operation.

The packhouse is a busy environment, particularly between April and September, with the operation running through to around November. This role is heavily focused on getting the best from people, retaining skills and creating a well-run, productive team.

You'll be the main point of contact for the packhouse, managing the day-to-day operation and making sure everything is running as it should. This will include overseeing staffing, performance, quality and production, while working closely with the wider site team. This role is perfect for someone who is naturally good with people, approachable and has the ability to bring different teams together will be important.

The role will involve:

• Taking full ownership of the day-to-day packhouse operation.
• Leading and developing a large seasonal workforce, including returnee employees.
• Planning resources and making sure the right people are in the right place during peak periods.
• Maintaining strong standards across production, quality, food safety, hygiene and health & safety.
• Working closely with the Quality team to ensure customer and audit requirements are met.
• Monitoring performance and dealing with any issues quickly and effectively.
• Supporting the development and retention of skills within the seasonal workforce.
• Working with other areas of the site to make sure the wider operation runs smoothly.
• Supporting the glasshouse operation during the quieter winter months.

What we're looking for:

The biggest thing is people management. We're looking for someone who enjoys working with people, can build trust quickly and is comfortable leading a diverse workforce in a busy environment.

You’ll ideally have experience within fresh produce, food manufacturing, packing or another similar operational environment, along with a track record of managing teams. Experience of working with seasonal labour would be particularly useful.

You’ll need to be organised, hands‑on and confident making decisions in a fast‑moving environment. Experience with quality systems, audits and SAP would also be beneficial.

This is a permanent position with a clear seasonal rhythm. The packhouse is at its busiest through the spring and summer, while the quieter winter period will give you the opportunity to look at continious improvement and planning for the future.
