If you're an Ecologist with 1 year field based experience and you're looking to take the next step in your career, this is an excellent opportunity to join a growing team and work across a diverse range of ecological projects in the South of England.

You'll support the delivery of ecological surveys, assessments and technical reports, while gaining further experience across protected species, habitats and project delivery. You'll work alongside experienced colleagues and have the opportunity to develop your technical knowledge and take on increasing responsibility as your career progresses.

What's the role?

As an Assistant Ecologist, you'll be involved in a varied range of fieldwork, assessment, reporting and project support activities.

You'll have the opportunity to build on your existing consultancy or industry experience through hands on project work, supported by the wider ecology team.

What will you be doing?

You'll be involved in a varied range of ecological activities, including:

• Carrying out protected species and habitat surveys, including bats, reptiles, and birds.
• Assisting with habitat assessments.
• Supporting the preparation of technical ecological reports, including PEAs and EIAs.
• Undertaking ecological data analysis and contributing to project deliverables.
• Supporting the delivery of ecological assessments in accordance with relevant legislation, guidance and planning requirements.
• Recording and managing accurate field survey data and ecological observations.
• Contributing to technical project documentation and ensuring information is presented clearly and accurately.
• Supporting project management activities and helping to ensure work is delivered on time and to the required standard.
• Working collaboratively with colleagues across the ecology team and wider project teams.
• Using relevant ecological software and mapping tools to support project delivery.
• Maintaining a good working knowledge of relevant ecological legislation, planning policy and industry guidance.

What are we looking for?

• A degree in Ecology, Environmental Science or a related discipline - Preferred
• 1 year consultancy or industry experience.
• Experience supporting ecological surveys and technical report writing.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
• A proactive approach and genuine willingness to learn and develop.
• Good attention to detail and a methodical approach to ecological fieldwork and reporting.
• A full UK driving licence.

Desired Skills and Experience

The following would be advantageous:

• Protected species survey licences, such as bat or great crested newt licences.
• Membership of CIEEM, or a willingness to work towards membership.
• Further experience of protected species surveys and ecological assessment.
