Principal Powertrain Systems Engineer
As principal engineer you will be responsible for the delivery of base engine systems for a new engine programme.
This involves working with subcontractors that provide detailed level design expertise and collaborating with the chief engineer and other principal engineers to establish system requirements and specifications, oversee detailed design, integration, development and validation of the complete engine system.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with subcontractors to define detailed design expertise.
- Establish system requirements and specifications with the chief engineer and other principal engineers.
- Oversee detailed design, integration, development and validation of the complete engine system.
- Provide technical leadership and project management within the engine development team.
- Lead delivery through external engineering resources and ensure technical quality.
- Required Experience & Knowledge
- Minimum 8 years of post‑academic engine design experience (gasoline, diesel, H2).
- Experience in designing ICEs for automotive, motorsport, agriculture, rail, marine or power generation.
- Proven experience in systems‑level design: technical specifications, requirements decomposition, validation activities, DFMEA, DVP&R, 8D problem solving.
- Experience in at least one of the following disciplines: Valvetrain design (DOHC/SOHC), Gears/timing drive design, CCV (crank case ventilation), Aftertreatment (e. g., DEF), Fuel systems (fuel delivery, handling), Air handling (intake manifold, throttle), Major castings.
- Degree or higher qualification in mechanical design, automotive engineering, motorsport engineering, or related field.
Qualifications
- Excellent grasp of mechanical engineering principles and ability to apply them to complex mechanical problems.
- Strong technical leadership and team‑leadership skills.
- Ability to manage key external engineering resources.
The role is based on site five days a week; hybrid working is not supported.
