About the Role
MPI are looking for a temporary Senior Technician (Fleet & Plant Maintenance), for our client based in Huntington. Contract approx. 3 months, 37 hour working week with only occasional overtime on bank holidays. The workshop is open from 06:00 to 17:00, with shifts being 06:00 to 14:00 or 09:00 to 17:00. Friday finishes 30 minutes earlier. Pay is £18.38 to £20.56/h on a grade F (£35,468 to £39,671).
As a Senior Technician, you will carry out a wide range of maintenance, repair, inspection, and diagnostic work while supporting the Workshop Manager in the day-to-day coordination of workshop activities. You will also provide technical guidance to colleagues and help ensure the efficient delivery of fleet maintenance services.
Key Responsibilities
- To undertake a range of repair, maintenance and safety checks as directed, relating to the council’s fleet of vehicles, plant and machinery.
- Ensure that all works are carried out to the standards defined in current legislation, codes of practice and manufacturers specifications.
- Ensure the maintenance of accurate records of all work undertaken on the vehicle fleet and machinery.
- Deputise for the Workshop Manager as appropriate, planning and co-ordinating the day to day activities of the Team and directing staff as appropriate.
- Order stocks required and liaise with contractors / vehicle manufacturers as necessary.
- Assist in the planning of the vehicle maintenance schedules, liaising with operations staff where necessary.
- Attend vehicle breakdowns when necessary arranging for the appropriate work to be carried out and provide advice to drivers / operators on dealing with problems.
- Conduct all duties in a safe and proper manner, as defined in the Safe Working Practices.
- Undertake any other duties appropriate to the skill and ability level of the post as directed from time to time.
Essential Qualifications
- City & Guilds Level 5 Diploma in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Principles (or equivalent experience).
- Full C+E Driving Licence.
- Driver Qualification Card (35 hours Driver CPC completed).
Essential Experience
- Experience working with large hydraulic systems.
- Experience maintaining diesel and petrol engines.
- Previous experience supervising or leading a small team.
- Experience preparing vehicles to current Department for Transport standards.

- Ability to work independently and use initiative.
- Strong organisational and planning skills.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
