Job Description

Assist the Council Tax Officer to ensure the identification and recovery of council tax, non-domestic rates and benefit overpayments in line with current legislation, policies and initiatives set by government and by local policy. The postholder may contact debtors to discuss repayment and liaise with other organisations to maximise collection of unpaid monies.

Experience of working in a busy officer environment using relevant technology

Experience in the recovery of unpaid monies

Minimum 4 Standard Grades or equivalent including Maths and English

Effective organisational skills, including time management

Strong customer care skills and focus

Self confidence

Self motivated

Proven ability to deal with difficult and/or confrontational customers

Ability to analyse and prioritise recovery of debt

Ability to liaise and work effectively with Debt collection partners

Ability to work effectively as part of a team

Effective communication skills – both written and verbal

Ability to relate well with all levels of staff

Willingness to accept direction/ delegation

Appreciation and acceptance of and commitment to the importance of confidentiality

A flexible approach to new working practices and technology

Flexibility to meet needs and demands of the service
