To provide relational support to children, alongside their families, who are displaying behaviours that place themselves or others at risk of harm, or in conflict with the law.
Responsibilities
- Take a lead role or work in partnership with other services to complete assessments of need, risk and create realistic and achievable actions plans with children and their families.
- Deliver a responsive service to children and their families using a variety of models as deemed suitable.
- Assume the day-to-day responsibility for managing a caseload which entails working directly with children, their families, other organisations and agencies.
- Engage in appropriate supervision and undertake suitable training relevant with the role.
- Undertake relevant administrative tasks associated with the role.
- Assist in the development and delivery of group work.
- Work collaboratively with Youth Justice team members, other social work teams and partner agencies.
The Individual / Qualifications
- Experience of working with children and their families, in particular where there is a risk of harm to self or others or coming into conflict with the law.
- Knowledge of child protection.
- Understanding of relevant legislation and policy in relation to Youth Justice.
- Educated to standard grade or equivalent in English.
- HNC Social Care / SVQ 3.
- A willingness to undertake training.
- Willingness to register with SSSC.
- Able to communicate well verbally and in writing.
- An ability to work alone without close supervision.
- Willingness to learn and take on board advice and guidance.
- Proficient IT skills, particularly in the use of Microsoft Word and Outlook.
- Good organisational and time management skills.
- Experience of completing assessments and understanding of risk.
- Understanding of child development.
- Capacity to establish productive working relationships with children, families and professional staff.
- Calm, patient and non-judgemental attitude.
- The capacity to handle stressful situations.
- Capacity to deal with conflicting demands.
- Flexible working hours to meet the needs and demands of the service.
- You will be expected to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Moray; a full driving licence is required.
