To provide relational support to children, alongside their families, who are displaying behaviours that place themselves or others at risk of harm, or in conflict with the law.

Responsibilities

  • Take a lead role or work in partnership with other services to complete assessments of need, risk and create realistic and achievable actions plans with children and their families.
  • Deliver a responsive service to children and their families using a variety of models as deemed suitable.
  • Assume the day-to-day responsibility for managing a caseload which entails working directly with children, their families, other organisations and agencies.
  • Engage in appropriate supervision and undertake suitable training relevant with the role.
  • Undertake relevant administrative tasks associated with the role.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of group work.
  • Work collaboratively with Youth Justice team members, other social work teams and partner agencies.

The Individual / Qualifications

  • Experience of working with children and their families, in particular where there is a risk of harm to self or others or coming into conflict with the law.
  • Knowledge of child protection.
  • Understanding of relevant legislation and policy in relation to Youth Justice.
  • Educated to standard grade or equivalent in English.
  • HNC Social Care / SVQ 3.
  • A willingness to undertake training.
  • Willingness to register with SSSC.
  • Able to communicate well verbally and in writing.
  • An ability to work alone without close supervision.
  • Willingness to learn and take on board advice and guidance.
  • Proficient IT skills, particularly in the use of Microsoft Word and Outlook.
  • Good organisational and time management skills.
  • Experience of completing assessments and understanding of risk.
  • Understanding of child development.
  • Capacity to establish productive working relationships with children, families and professional staff.
  • Calm, patient and non-judgemental attitude.
  • The capacity to handle stressful situations.
  • Capacity to deal with conflicting demands.
  • Flexible working hours to meet the needs and demands of the service.
  • You will be expected to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Moray; a full driving licence is required.
