To carry out the duties of a Labourer (semi-skilled) and to contribute to the provision of an efficient and effective maintenance service.

Responsibilities

  • To undertake a range of semi-skilled labouring duties as directed by the Contracts Supervisor.
  • To provide out of hours cover when required (driving licence essential).
  • To undertake training as required.
  • To comply with all Health and Safety and security procedures and guidelines.
  • To undertake any other duties as may be reasonably expected from time to time.

The Individual

  • Considerable experience in Building & Maintenance works.
  • Experience in Fencing, Slabbing and Drainage.
  • Experience of using various plant & equipment.
  • SVQ Level 2 in Construction or equal (or be able to demonstrate the required competency).
  • Capable of working on own or as a team member.
  • Self-confident and self-motivated.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Full driving licence required as lone working is a requirement both in and out of normal working hours.
  • Experience of working at heights/on roofs.
  • Ability to undertake daily checks on vehicle and record information accurately.
  • Ability to follow routines and written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to complete a range of work-related documents.
  • Well organised and methodical approach to complete tasks.
  • Able to communicate effectively with both members of the public and colleagues.
  • Willingness to accept direction/delegation.
  • Must be able to climb ladder and work in confined spaces.
  • Must be able to move and handle equipment and materials in accordance with moving and handling regulations.
  • Flexibility to meet the needs and demands of the service.

This is an exciting opportunity to become part of our Building Services team at the DLO, that directly employ over 150 multi-trade and specialist support staff. Services provided include building maintenance and improvement services to the Council’s 6,300 houses, as well as reactive and planned maintenance to other Council buildings that include schools, offices and libraries. Moray Council provides an excellent package including on & off site training, provision of personal protective equipment and tools.

Closing Date: 12 December 2025

Starting Salary: £27,282.32 (£14.18 per hour) for 37hrs per week.
