Applications are invited for the post of Pupil Support Worker at MAC Central (formerly East End Annexe). An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Pupil Support Worker at MAC Central which is part of the Central Inclusion Service which has been reviewed recently. The role will provide applicants with the opportunity to be part of a team that provides assistance to schools, learners and families alike.

The MAC Central Team sits within the wider central Inclusion Service and supports primary and secondary learners with a flexible and adapted curriculum personalised to need. This team also works closely with the MAC Pinefield Team. The Central Inclusion Service also includes three Flexible Learning Resource teams which support primary schools, one within MAC Central to support central Moray and two outreach teams supporting East and West Moray. In addition to this there is a Deaf and Visual Education Team, an English as an Additional Language Team and a team of trainers providing professional learning aligned to the Moray Staged Intervention model. This is very much one service where cross team working is supported and encouraged to best serve the needs of all young people and their families.

Job Purpose & Way of Working

To work directly with primary and secondary school aged children and young people who display social, emotional, behavioural and communication needs. To work with education providers and partners to promote inclusive practice and trauma informed learning environments. Through a focus on health and wellbeing you will support a nurturing, restorative, solution focussed environment where children and young people work towards positive social, emotional and behavioural self-management and sensory response using known strategies and approaches. You will work with colleagues to establish trusting and empowering relationships with children and young people to promote independence, resilience, and re-engagement with learning. You will support the planning and will deliver targeted and time limited individual and small group work programmes to meet identified priorities for children and young people.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with children and young people and colleagues to model and promote inclusive practice and trauma informed learning environments.
  • Support the planning required in order to work with colleagues to deliver, evidence and evaluate individual and small group work programmes to meet identified priorities for children and young people, including alternative curricular activities which reduce social anxiety and stress.
  • Support and facilitate the delivery of wellbeing and wider achievement awards for children and young people.
  • Support the development and delivery of services within the Central ASN Team.
  • Health and Safety duties linked to pupils.

Experience

  • Experience of work with children and young people who display social, emotional, and behavioural needs.
  • Experience of working with children and young people with social and communication needs.
  • Experience of working within a young person's environment.
  • A minimum of 4 national 5s, or 4 Standard Grades at level 2 or above. Must include English and Maths.
  • Self confident and self motivated.
  • Ability to work on own initiative.
  • Ability to plan and facilitate activities.
  • Effective communication skills, oral and written.
  • Effective organisational and time management skills.

This post is considered to be a ‘Regulated Role’ under the Disclosure (Scotland) Act 2020. Under the Act it is a legal requirement for an individual undertaking a regulated role with children or protected adults to be a member of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme. Therefore the successful candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check prior to any formal offer of employment being made by Moray Council.
