The post holder will assist the Service Manager Planning and Building Standards as required and as delegated in providing the Building Standards service within Moray. This will include meeting agreed objectives and providing professional advice, making decisions on applications for Building Warrant and Completion Certificates submitted to the Council and other Building Standards related matters. The post holder will also hold responsibility for some management tasks as delegated and supervise staff on a day to day basis in regard to operational matters.
Responsibilities
- Make decisions on applications for Building Warrant, Completion Certificate submissions and other Building Standards related matters.
- Act in the capacity as consultee on behalf of Building Standards Section to the Moray Licensing Team.
- Undertake a proportion of management duties as delegated in order to assist the Service Manager Planning and Building Standards including deputising for the Service Manager Planning and Building Standards as required.
The Individual
- Relevant experience post qualification.
- In depth knowledge of the Building (Scotland) Act 2003, Technical Handbooks and related legislation.
- The ability to seek innovation in the development of services to public.
- Degree attainment in a building related subject.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Analytical approach.
- Numeracy.
- An ability to accept delegation.
- An interest in construction and building related matters.
- Full clean driving licence.
- Ability to relate well with staff and at all levels.
- Willingness to work within a demanding environment where a flexible and corporate approach is required.
- Good standard of general health and fitness required.
- Ability to climb stairs, ladders and scaffolding.
- Good work attendance record.
- Ability to work in an open plan office environment.

Starting Salary: £59,170.15 (£31.39 per hour)
